361º TEAM EUROPE VISITED VOLGOGRAD IN RUSSIA
What an adventure! Last week 361º team Europe travelled to Volgograd in Russia to support Kai and Victor and provide him with new shoes for the next part of his journey. After 51 days and ± 3500 km Kai and Victor have been welcomed warmly by the local runners of Volgograd.
On the last 10 km to Volgograd Kai got great support by local runners. The group coached by Constantin (Parkrun Volgograd) really like the idea of runmysilkroad and it was immediately clear to them to support Kai & Victor during their stay! It is more than impressive to them that a man from Germany running to Shanghai, stops in their city and wants to meet local runners and explore their culture. The welcome was warm and overwhelming to Kai and Victor! They even prepared a finish line in the city, filmed by local television. And they had some little typical Russian presents for the guys from Germany. All this has shown that “running connects cultures and people’’. To finish the day, we as a team did the +1 Challenge - 50 sit-ups and push-ups – puhhh, really exhausting!
The day after Kai had a rest day so he was able to meet local people and learn more of the impressive Russian culture. In the morning there was a meeting with the Elton – ultra trail running team. Even it has been a rest day for Kai, he decided to have a small run with the group to talk about his experiences on his way to Russia. After visiting several war memorials in the afternoon, Kai together with the 361º team Europe joined the Parkrun community who met for a training session with coach Constantin. For all of us it was an amazing experience to meet the locals and to acknowledge their passion for running.
On Tuesday the 2nd of May it was time for all of us to leave Volgograd and for Kai to continue his adventure. About 60km running was planned for that day. We (the team of 361° Europe) had the chance to accompany Kai on his way running with him. We had a great time while experience the journey of Kai & Victor in reality!
Thank you all for the support in Russia! We will come back.
